Russia expands asparagus plantations in North Ossetia

The farmers of the Arkhonskoye farm in North Ossetia will expand Russia's largest asparagus plantation by another 40 hectares, the project investor Valery Revazov said.

Last year, the farm received Dutch asparagus seedlings and planted them on an area of ​​15 hectares. Currently, there is a harvest of the first crop. At the same time, the farm is preparing a plot for planting asparagus on another 40 hectares. Landing is scheduled to begin in two weeks.

Today, the North Ossetian plantation is the largest in the Russian Federation. There are small areas for growing this crop near Nizhny Novgorod (6 hectares) and near Moscow (8 hectares), Valery Revazov shared information.

35 million rubles, or $ 546,700, were invested in the project to grow asparagus in North Ossetia. The crop from planted asparagus can be obtained for 10-12 years. According to Revazov, culture will fully pay for itself in 5 years. The farm plans to sell the crop in the markets of Moscow and North Ossetia.

But at the place of its cultivation asparagus is not in great demand, the investor said. The farm has already planned to hold a gastronomic festival, the construction of a base for the storage of finished products, a processing shop and the laying of its own nursery.
