The Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation increases the quota for the supply of tomatoes from Turkey

The Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation has decided to increase the quota for the import of tomatoes from Turkey by 1.5 times.

The Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation has already prepared a draft order on increasing the quota for the import of Turkish tomatoes by half. It is planned that the import of tomatoes from Turkey will be about 150 thousand tons per year. The document is already available on the federal portal of draft regulatory legal acts. The project is currently being tested by independent anti-corruption experts.

  • Recall that Russia imposed an embargo on imports from Turkey of a number of goods from January 1, 2016 due to the attack of the air forces of this country on the Russian SU-24 in Syria in November 2015. Restrictions on the supply of Turkish products began to be gradually lifted since the fall of 2016. But the ban on tomatoes remained in effect until November 2017.

    On May 1, 2018, the Russian Federation removed the restriction on the number of Turkish exporting companies. The total quota remained at the level of 50 thousand tons per year. At the beginning of this year, the quota volume increased to 100 thousand tons.
