Scientists from Israel have found a way to use discarded apples

According to the UN, about 1.3 billion tons of apples worth $ 1 trillion are going to landfill every year. Israeli scientists have invented a method of processing in which these losses will be excluded.

Far from all apples grown by farmers fall on the counter. Fruits too small or unusually large in size, as well as those with dark spots, do not reach the buyer. Like fruits that have fallen from a tree or during transportation, they are thrown away. Thus, approximately 10% of apples are rejected. Globally, this is turning into formidable numbers - 1.3 billion tons.

In their laboratory, they grind apples into fine powder. Having researched its composition, scientists found that it has the same nutritional value as raw apples. Powder fully preserves vitamins, antioxidants, dietary fiber and other beneficial substances.

The discovery of Israeli scientists will allow to save a huge number of rejected apples. The resulting powder has a long shelf life. In vacuum packaging, it can be stored for more than a year, says Mr. Benjamin.
