Making a sofa from pallets do it yourself

Some things sometimes surprise by their origin. It would seem that you can make from used pallets, which are often not needed even in the backyards of supermarkets. It turns out that the used pallets can be reused and useful for the household. You can make wonderful furniture from these wooden blocks.

What we need

For creativity will need such tools and materials:

  • wood saw, industrial stapler, screwdrivers and screwdrivers;
  • hardware: screws, nails;
  • fastening structures - angles, brackets, clamps;
  • tools and materials for stripping - sandpaper, files, files;
  • paints - primer, paint;
  • accessories (legs, stops, etc.);
  • upholstery fabric and filler.

Important! An empty pallet weighs up to 20 kilograms and is capable of withstanding up to 1000 kilograms of weight.

Design solutions with the use of pallets are currently innovative, and people are happy to pay attention to such interior items. Some furniture makers produce entire lines of such products that are in good demand.

Manufacturing process

First you need to decide on the design of the future sofa. It can be a simple product like a bed or something more complex like a soft corner. Next, you need to purchase these same pallets. They are ordered at furniture factories, where pallets are made in a specialized way.

Also, these designs can be obtained by agreeing with the leadership of a grocery store, where they have become unnecessary. In extreme cases, they can be made independently of the boards.

Did you know? In the Ottoman Empire, the sofa was intended only for the Grand Vizier, the right hand of the Sultan.

Material preparation

Pallets must be inspected for sticking nails or chips, carefully remove all protruding elements. You also need to choose such designs that do not have damage that can degrade their properties during use. Pallets that were previously used should be cleaned with a dry brush and rinsed with water from a hose. After the pallet is cleaned and dried, it must be sanded. This is done with the help of a grinding machine, a drill with a special nozzle or manually - with emery paper.

If the future furniture is planned to be used outdoors (on the veranda, in the gazebo, etc.), the surface of the pallets should be covered with a primer designed for outdoor work - this will protect the product from moisture.

It will be useful for you to read about how to independently remove the old paint from the walls and whitewash from the ceiling, how to make a plasterboard partition with a doorway, and also how to sheathe the wall with plasterboard.

Assembly

For the manufacture of a standard sofa, six pallets are useful, but it is better to get eight - since in the process of work you may need to disassemble one of them to make transitional structures.

The approximate scheme of making a sofa is as follows:

  1. Pallets are cleaned and sanded.
  2. Two pallets are laid face down and fastened together with boards, in the same way two more structures are connected.
  3. Another pallet is carefully sawn into two identical parts - the back of the future sofa will be made of it.
    Did you know? The pallet in its current form was first tested in the USA in the 20s of the last century. The American industrialists of that time quickly realized that without this device, their goods could not be moved with sufficient speed.
  4. The primer is smeared with all cracks, irregularities and other defects.
  5. As the primer dries, the constructions are covered with a layer of varnish and paint of the required color.
  6. To the future sofa you can attach the "legs" - it can be both wheels, and bars of wood.
  7. Next, a pair of connected pallets are fastened together, usually this is done with powerful self-tapping screws.
  8. To the future sofa you need to fasten the back with the help of all the same screws.
  9. With enough imagination, you can attach armrests, shelves, cabinets and other accessories to a new piece of furniture.
Important! After manufacturing the base, you can attach cladding parts in the form of mattresses, rollers, pillows to it. Such items are prepared in advance or purchased separately. You can attach these things in place using an industrial stapler and hardware products.

Finish coat

Before the final covering of the sofa you need to determine which colors will be in harmony with the new or existing furniture. The same applies to the soft elements - pillows, mattresses. It is necessary to ensure in advance that the colors of the furniture elements are in harmony with each other.

If the constructions are covered with lacquer only, then the pillows must repeat the stern style of the base, and are made of sackcloth. Pallets can be painted in any color, while stripping the mattresses and pillows in the corresponding colors.

Dark colors are more suitable for country house design or manor garden, as pallets painted in such color and pillows of similar color are non-stained and look good against the background of natural landscapes in gazebos. White designs look good in the halls with cushions of any coloring, and also look very interesting with various bright prints. Subdued tones are perfect for the interior of private houses and suburban buildings. Firstly, with such a color, it is not necessary to wash pillows too often, and secondly, dark textiles perfectly fit into the atmosphere of the dusk twilight.

Examples of sofas from pallets

Creating sofas from wooden forms is a creative process that fascinates. You can create a simple design where two people can rest, or you can apply a creative approach to creating a furniture composition. Consider a few examples of interesting design solutions.

Multifunctional sofa. The sofa can be not just a "lounger", but also have a different purpose. This furniture can be transformed into a bed, chair, double sofa. However, some difficulties are not necessary - you can simply copy the structural elements of similar furniture products. Such furniture is applicable not only for recreation, but also, for example, tea ceremonies. On the protruding surfaces you can put any things or items such as dishes with a drink or food, sewing supplies, books, etc.

A couch of pallets assembled in several levels, located in front of a home cinema, will perfectly fill the space of a large room and will be convenient for watching an interesting movie.

It is quite simple to create such a large box - each subsequent visual row is one pallet higher than the previous one. As a result, the cinema of three tiers is freely able to accommodate about twenty spectators. Hand-made sofas can be designed at your discretion. Here for the designer there is a huge space for creativity both in the architecture of the product and in its appearance, which, by the way, can be changed regularly, since the design of the furniture has to frequently change the upholstery, edging, and accessories.

We can say that sofas from pallets are a designer for adults who can safely experiment with the appearance and materials of such furniture. In addition, if suddenly something did not like, you can always change any element of the product in accordance with the new fashion trends and their own taste.
