Helminths were found in Russian canned cod liver

The laboratory of the Central Scientific and Production Veterinary Radiological Laboratory of the Federal State Budgetary Institution was sent a sample of canned cod liver for research on the presence of helminths. The studied sample of canned fish contained inanimate nematodes from the anisacide family.

Anizakida - the most common parasites on the planet. Both adult individuals and their larvae live inside birds, fish, marine mammals, reptiles, and reptiles. Larvae can live in invertebrates and fish. But in recent years, these helminths have expanded the list of their owners. In their number was a man. Cases of human infection with anisacides are associated with the ingestion of fish infected with live larvae of fish and cephalopods.

  • You should know that not every helminth is a danger to humans. Frozen foods are generally safe if they have been properly frozen, since not all parasites die from low temperatures. Fried fish is considered harmless, as the worms do not tolerate heat treatment. In canned food they can appear if the canning technology has been violated.

But the product infected with parasites, is impossible. Such products are poisonous due to the fact that the worms accumulate heavy metal salts. In this sample of canned food "Cod liver", the lifeless helminth larvae were identified. In a parasitological study, it is not so much the helminths themselves that are important, but the degree of damage to the product they cause, as well as the lack of presentation in fish and products from it.
