About 4.6 thousand hectares (area of potato cultivation in West Bengal) was destroyed due to anomalous rains. The farmers, who at that time began harvesting in the above region, are sure: the tubers left in the soil will simply rot. 
According to agrarians of Bengal, such spontaneous incidents are not isolated. Last year, the rains were also responsible for the destruction of the harvest. Following the forecasts of analysts and experts in the field of agriculture, all the factors for cultivation indicated that the harvests would have to be rich, but the weather, as always, made its own adjustments.
After all damage reports have been received in Calcutta, the state government will consider compensation for farmers.
