The reasons why goslings die. Prevention and treatment

Breeding young stock in the poultry farm can bring a lot of frustration over the death of goslings. Why embryos and newborn chicks are dying, teenagers, and what to do about it, we find out in this article.

Why goslings die

Causes of mortality are often sought in diseases, this is true, but only in part. It happens that the cause of the case are the mistakes of the poultry farmer in the care of parents and offspring.

Check out the main diseases of geese.

In the egg

The death of the embryo can be caused by the following reasons:

  • incorrect diet of parents, errors in care;
  • parental illness at the time of conception;
  • violation of the conditions and mode of incubation (temperature, humidity, exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide);
  • contaminated surface of the shell.

Before the breeding season, the parental pair is heavily fed, focusing on vitamins and minerals. Be sure to check the state of health: infected parents transmit the disease to future chicks. After the appearance of eggs, they are sorted, rejecting the deformed, with defects of the shell, with two or more yolks (checked by an ovoscope). The shell consists of a set of pores that can pass both oxygen to feed the embryo and the microflora present in the shell.

If bacteria get inside, it leads to embryonic pathologies and death. Before incubation, the polluted shells are gently and gently cleaned: first with warm water, then with a slightly pink solution of potassium permanganate.

You need to know in advance about the temperature and humidity conditions for successful hatching. The incubator can be opened no more than every six hours. It is necessary that the embryos normally undergo an exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide. When airing, you need to spray the eggs so that no moisture loss occurs. The withdrawal period is accompanied by the lights turned off in the incubator. When hatching occurs, the incubator cannot be opened.

If excretion occurs without the use of an incubator, preference is given to an experienced hen. Up to fifteen eggs can be placed under one goose. She needs to provide maximum peace and quiet.

One by one

What is the cause of death goslings one after another, consider further:

  • pasteurellosis;
  • colibacteriosis;
  • obstruction of the esophagus;
  • worms and skin parasites.
Infectious diseases are treated with antibiotics, which are prescribed by the doctor after the examination ("Biomitsin", tetracycline, penicillin). From internal parasites also get rid of with the help of veterinary drugs (levamisole, irrigation of the throat 1 ml).
Did you know? Among the Teleut and Ngasan nationalities, the goose is the shaman's assistant, and among the Yakuts and Ostyaks, the god of all birds.

From external parasites helps boric Vaseline, they smeared the affected areas of the body; ASD-3 diluted with sunflower oil one to five. At the time of treatment, infected birds are isolated, disinfection is carried out in the house, they examine the rest of the pets.

The blockage of the esophagus is formed due to poor-quality feed, lack of food or water. The situation can be remedied by introducing about 50 grams of sunflower oil into the esophagus. After gently pressing, squeeze its contents through the mouth of the bird.

Fall on paws

The most vulnerable age for viruses and infections is up to three months. If a goose-dog has a loss of coordination, lethargy, moving to the sides of the legs, falling, then This can be caused by such ailments:

  • salmonellosis;
  • viral enteritis;
  • avitaminosis;
  • renal coccidiosis;
  • poisoning;
  • hypothermia or overheating;
  • hymenolepiasis.

After diagnosis, the veterinarian will prescribe antibiotic treatment in case of a virus or an infectious disease. Patients need to be transplanted from healthy individuals and carry out the procedure for disinfecting the house. For non-infectious reasons, attention should be paid to the temperature in the room with the goslings. Often frostbite of the extremities occurs from hypothermia, the chicks simply cannot stand on injured paws. It is necessary to warm the room and install heating devices as needed.

Limb problems can be caused by a lack of vitamins and minerals. For the development of bones, muscles, normal growth of chicks they need vitamins and minerals: E, D, group B, manganese, calcium. All these substances need to be added to feed. Also important is clean and fresh water freely available.

Important! To help the young ones regain their strength in the extremities, chicks are fixed with a net dressing that maintains the natural position of the paws for several days until they get stronger.
Poor prophylactic disinfection or a poisonous plant eaten on the ground is no less dangerous than viruses and infections. In the first case, it is necessary to use non-aggressive preparations for birds. In the second case, clean the yard for walking goslings from a potential poison.

Recommended drugs

For the treatment of birds, they use mainly broad-spectrum drugs.

"Norsulfazol"

Remedy for viruses and infections, as well as for bacterial diseases:

  • bronchopneumonia;
  • salmonellosis;
  • pasteurellosis;
  • mycoplasmosis;
  • enteritis.

The bird is given 0.5 grams per liter of water with a drink for five days. With pasteurellosis, intramuscular injection is administered in the form of an aqueous solution of 20% at a dose of 1 ml per kg for up to three days.

"Biomitsin"

Means in the form of powder is used in such conditions:

  • mycoplasmosis;
  • pasteurellosis;
  • laryngotracheitis;
  • leptospirosis;
  • colibacteriosis.

The powder is added to the drink at the rate of 0.1 mg per 1 kg of live weight.

Penicillin

Apply the drug in such cases:

  • viral enteritis;
  • streptococcosis;
  • pasteurellosis.
We advise you to familiarize yourself with the description and peculiarities of breeding such breeds of geese as Arzamas, Landa, Mamut, Governor, Kuban, Hungarian white, Rhine, Danish legart, Tula, Linda, Rhine, Chinese and large gray.

The goslings are injected intramuscularly with 50,000 U per 1 kg of body weight of the animal, diluting the drug with novocaine with 0.5% m or sterilized water.

Tetracycline

The drug is effective against the following diseases:

  • gastroenteritis;
  • bronchopneumonia;
  • salmonellosis;
  • streptococcosis.
Important! After treatment with antibiotics, the bird needs to be given a lot of drinking, so that the decay products of medicines are more quickly eliminated from the body.

Bird tetracycline give in the form of a powder, mixed into the feed. Norm - from 20 to 50 mg per 1 kg of weight, twice a day. The course of treatment is from five to seven days.

Furazolidone

Drug for intestinal infections:
